Abuakwa North by-election slated for April 5

The Electoral Commission has slated April 5 for a by-election to replace the slain Abuakwa North Member of Parliament Joseph Boakye Danquah-Adu.

The move is in respect of Article 112 (5) of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana.

The article reads: “Whenever a vacancy occurs in Parliament, the Clerk to Parliament shall notify the Electoral Commission in writing within seven days after the vacancy occurred, and a by-election shall be held within thirty days after the vacancy occurred”

The New Patriotic Party MP was stabbed several times whiles sleeping in his East Legon residence in Accra on February 9.

A 19-year-old teenage Daniel Asiedu who has confessed to the crime is being tried by the State.
