Abodakpi Still MP

… As He Goes On Appeal

Expected To Be Granted Bail Pending The Outcome of The Appeal The Ghanaian Lens can today confirm that lawyers for Hon. Dan Abodakpi have filed an appeal on behalf of their client in respect of his trial and conviction last Monday to a jail term of ten years in hard labour.

The motion for the appeal would be moved on 20th February 2007.

These were disclosed to The Ghanaian Lens by Mr. Ferdinand Abodakpi, a junior brother of the MP.

According to Mr. Ferdinand Abodakpi, the family expects that Hon. Dan Abodakpi would be admitted to bail while the appeal goes on.

“The family expects that our father and elder brother would be granted bail while the appeal goes on. This is because when one considers that there is no compensation package under the laws of Ghana for anyone who, having spent time in jail, is then acquitted on appeal, and considering that my brother is an elderly person, we believe that it would only be just and proper that he is admitted to bail while the appeal goes on,” Mr. Abodakpi (Jnr.) told The Ghanaian Lens.

Legal experts that this paper spoke with are agreed that once Hon. Abodakpi is admitted to bail, he could resume his duties as the elected representative of his constituents in parliament, which would then mean that there is not going to be a bye-election is eminent in the Keta constituency anytime soon as appears to be the expectations in certain circles.
