A taxi driver commits suicide at Wenchi

A 30-year-old taxi driver, Yaw Badu, shot and wounded his girlfriend and later committed suicide at Wenchi in the Brong Ahafo Region when his lover called for a break in their relationship.

Badu fired at the 20-year-old girlfriend, Maame Julie who is a final year student of Koase Senior High Technical School, hitting her in the arm on Sunday night in a hostel he had rented for her.

An eye-witness told the Ghana News Agency at Wenchi that there had been some petty squabbles between them after the deceased had a tip-off that his girlfriend was in a relationship with another man.

Badu had information on Sunday night that the man was in her girlfriend’s room and therefore drove his taxi to the place and found them in the room.

Badu confronted the man who escaped. Julie told Badu she needed a break in their relationship and this infuriated Badu who shot her with a locally manufactured pistol and thinking she was dead he drove back to Wenchi where he shot himself dead.

The girlfriend is on admission at the Wenchi Methodist Hospital.

The Wenchi Divisional Police confirmed the incident to the GNA and said they were investigating.
