A mechanic apprentice remanded for indulging in illegal abortion

Asamankese, May, 22, GNA – A mechanic apprentice, Kofi Owusu-Ansah, has been remanded in prison custody by the Asamankese Circuit Court for taking his girl friend, Comfort Amma, to a quack doctor to have her pregnancy terminated.

Owusu-Ansah, whose plea of guilty was deferred until his girlfriend was present in court, would reappear on June 1. Prosecuting, Detective Police Inspector, Osei Owusu, told the Court that the Police on February 20, this year, had information that Amma had undergone an abortion and was bleeding at the Suhum Government Hospital. He said the Police proceeded to the Hospital where they met her on admission.

Detective Police Inspector Owusu said she confessed that Owusu-Ansah who was then at her bedside, had sent her for an abortion resulting in her bleeding leading to he arrest of the accused. He said Police investigation had proved that the one who performed the abortion was a quack doctor who is at large and a search had been mounted to arrest him.
