New Tepa-Abotoase chief appeals for water

Tapa-Abotoase (V/R), Nov 26, GNA – Okofrobuor Baffour Kwame Asante II, Omanhene of Tapa-Abotoase, has appealed to government to provide the traditional area with potable water to avert an outbreak of bilharzias resulting from drinking untreated water from the Volta Lake. He also called for improvement in education infrastructure especially along the lake where school children walk long distances to school.

Okofrobuor Baffour Kwame Asante said this at his inauguration as the 14th occupant of the Anyenam Royal Stool at Tapa-Abotoase on Saturday.

He succeeded his uncle, the late Ogrohwe Anyenam Kwaku Boateng II, who ruled for 12 years.

He called on the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Culture to enforce the provisions of the Chieftaincy Act, especially Section 48, which deals with the eligibility and recognition of a chief.

He pledged to sustain the unity in the area and praised the government for deploying Ghana Navy personnel to safeguard life and property on the lake due to rampant boat accidents. Prof Ameyaw Akumfi, the Minister of Ports and Harbours who was the guest of honour, appealed to kingmakers to be wary of chieftaincy contractors and to shun their company.

Mr Sampson Kweku Boafo, Minister of State at the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Culture, appealed to chiefs and elders to resolve all conflicts pertaining to land and commended them for the peaceful selection and enstoolment Okofrobour Baffour Kwame Asante. 26 Nov 07
