Seven Ga-West communities to undertake tree planting

Amasaman, Aug 28, GNA – Seven communities in the Ga West District are to undertake a tree planting exercise around their homes to serve as windbreak to protect their buildings against rainstorms. Communities taking pat in the project, include Opah, Manche, Papaase, Kununse, Samsam, Dome, Dedeman, Achimota, Agofa and Beheum. Briefing the Ghana News Agency at Opah, near Amasaman at the weekend during their annual Homowo festival, Nii Ayitey Okoansro, chief of Opah, said already 400 seedling of teak were being planted in the town to serve as windbreak.

Nii Okoansro said the suggestion by Nii Ayibontey II, Gbese Mantse that the chiefs should release lands to the youth for forestation was a laudable idea, which would enhance the development and create employment for the youth in the area, which would in future generate earnings for them. 28 Aug. 07
