Twenty-two PSI workers sacked

Wa, July 19, GNA – Twenty-two workers of the Government Plantation Development Programme under the President’s Special Initiative (PSI in Wa, have been dismissed and their March to June salaries withheld.

In a statement on Wednesday, copied to the GNA, the affected workers said the Field Supervisor of the Programme, Madam Alice Dikono Bambo, only informed them verbally that they had been transferred to Jaffisi to rehabilitate the Pulumbujara Forest Reserve in the Sissala West District with effect from February 1, 2007.

They said while they were waiting to be served with their transfer letters and two months salary to enable them to move to Jaffisi, they were told they had vacated their post.

According to the affected workers, they received their transfer letters only on June 12, 2007 and when they reported to Mr. Jacob Bayuke, the Supervisor of the Programme in Tumu, they were informed that they had been replaced.

The dismissed workers called for a probe into the circumstances leading to their dismissal and the withholding of their salaries. When Mr. Moses Wondoh, Coordinator of the Programme in charge of the Northern Zone, was contacted on telephone, he confirmed that the workers were informed about their transfer verbally and the Tumu office informed, which was the practice.
