AngloGold provides 250 million cedi school for Teberebe

Teberebe (W/R), May 19, GNA- A 250 million Cedi Early Childhood Development Centre (ECDC) constructed by Anglogold Ashanti Iduapriem Mine Limited (AAIML) has been inaugurated at a ceremony at Teberebe near Tarkwa.

The facility is made up of two classrooms, an office and a store, which has been furnished with tables and chairs. Mr David Kwesi Renner, Managing Director, AAIML, said it was important for parents to plan the early childhood development of their children to help them reach their potentials in life. He said AAIML as part of its social responsibility programmes, was supporting the development of education in the host communities by building a solid foundation for the children. Mr Renner said to provide quality education all stakeholders should work together to achieve a common goal. “The government is contributing by formulating the right policies and providing an enabling environment for teachers such as training and commensurate salaries “The teachers should also be more committed to their work and instill discipline in their pupils”. He advised parents to take their children to school and take advantage of the government’s Capitation Grant. Mr Emmanuel Kwasi Ayensu, Wassa West District Chief Executive, who chaired the function, said the upbringing of a child is not the sole responsibility of teachers alone, and that parents too have a role to play.

He told the school authorities to take good care of the facility to prolong it’s lifespan.

Mr Jonathan Graham, headmaster of the District Assembly (D/A) Primary School, pleaded with the chiefs and people of Teberebe to help protect the facility from thieves who have of late attempted to steal from the school.

Nana Kojo Minnah, chief of Teberebe commended AAIML for the facility, which he said would boost education in the town. He pleaded with the mining company to extend scholarships to needy but brilliant pupils and students from the area as well as employing the youth on their mines The Mine presented First Aid kits to six people from the communities who have acquired training in first aid techniques.
