Health workers in Accra, have started an indefinite strike calling for a pay rise.
They say their wages have fallen far behind those enjoyed by other workers with similar qualifications.
Health Workers’ Group head Raymond Tetteh told the BBC that “skeletal services” would be maintained.
But he warned that nurses and doctors across the country would join the strike if their demands were not met by the end of the week.
He said that negotiations had started 15 months ago but had still not been finished.
But government social services spokesperson Kofi Amponsah Bediako urged the nurses and doctors to be patient for a bit longer.
“A tug of war will not help anybody. I believe it is just a matter of time,” he told the BBC’s Network Africa programme
