Two arraigned for murder

Tarkwa (W/R), Jan. 12, GNA – Two persons who were involved in shooting incidents resulting in the death of one Joseph Annor in the Asankranguaa chieftaincy dispute have been remanded in prison custody by a Tarkwa circuit court.

They are Kofi Siaw, a farmer, who shot and killed Annor and Kwaku Damuah, a storekeeper who shot and wounded Aisha Hammond, alias Aba Yaa, with a locally made pistol on December 26, 1999. The court presided over by Mr Isaac Lartey-Young, ordered them to re-appear on January 27.

Prosecuting, Inspector George Quarshie of Tarkwa Police said there was a chieftaincy case between Damuah and the Chief of Asankranguaa, Nana Anyani Boadum II. Inspector Quarshie said the Wassa Amenfi Traditional Council ruled in favour of Nana Boadum on December 22, 1999.

He said on December 26, 1999, Aba Yaa, who supports Nana Boadum allegedly, assaulted Yaw Ayensu, a supporter of Damuah. When Damuah was informed, he rushed to the scene, with his locally manufactured pistol hidden in his dress and in the midst of the confusion shot and wounded Aba Yaa.

After shooting her, he threw away the pistol and took to his heels but a mob that had gathered chased him. Aba Yaa was rushed to the local Catholic Hospital. Siaw visited Aba Yaa his niece at the hospital, and when he returned he shot Annor, killing him instantly and surrendered to the Police.

In Another development, Peter Eshun, 24, unemployed, was remanded in prison custody by the same court for stabbing to death Isaac Kofi Morgan at Kookoase near Bogoso. Chief Inspector Lydia Vondee of Tarkwa Police prosecuting said both Eshun and Morgan live at Kookoase.

She said on Jan. one, 2000, Eshun and Morgan engaged in a fight and in the process he stabbed him in the chest with a kitchen knife piercing his heart. Morgan was rushed to Tarkwa Government Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. The post-mortem showed that he died of heart failure. GNA
