Koforidua, Nov. 27, GNA – New Juaben Traditional Council last weekend performed the final funeral rites of Nana Juaben Serwaa, Queenmother of New Juaben Traditional Area.
Very Reverend Joseph Maxwell Osei, Superintendent Minister of Koforidua Wesley Cathedral, delivering the sermon at a thanksgiving service organized for the late queenmother on Sunday, called on Christians to resolve all differences with their neighbours. He said most Christians attended church service and honour all their obligations to the Church but their problem was how to lead exemplary lives worthy of emulation as a Christian in the society. The final funeral rites which began on Sunday, November 19, would end on the night of Monday, November 27, with the admission of the black stool of the late queenmother into the stool room of Yiadom-Hwedie Royal Family.
Nana Akosua Agyeman was enstooled Queenmother of New Juaben Traditional Area in 1945 under the stool name, Nana Juaben Serwaa II until 1951.
She was made Queen of New Juaben from 1962 until she died in 1999 and buried in February 2000.
Security was tight at the funeral grounds and New Juaben Omanhene’s Palace during the final funeral rites celebration of the late Queenmother.
The celebration was initially threatened by a court action taken by two children of the late Queenmother, Nana Akua Saah and Nana Kweku Boateng for an injunction on the final funeral rites. However, last Friday, November 24, a Koforidua High Court dismissed the application and awarded 10 million cedis cost against the plaintiffs.
Government delegation to the funeral was led by Mr Sampson Kwaku Boafo, Minister for Chieftaincy and Culture.
Others were, Mr Yaw Barimah, Eastern Regional Minister, Nana Adjei Boateng, New Juaben Municipal Chief Executive and some District Chief Executives from the region.
Nana Otuo Serebour II, Omanhene of Asante-Juaben Traditional Area, Nana Amponsah Antwi who represented Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and some chiefs from Ashanti and Eastern Regions also attended the funeral. The Government delegation presented 20 million cedis cash, a carton of schnapps and 12 cartons of assorted drinks to the bereaved family.
