Nyarigabisi(UER), Aug. 28, GNA – Candidates contesting the September 12 District Level Elections in the Upper East Region have began presenting their manifestoes to the electorates.
The Electoral Commission (EC) is mounting the platforms throughout the electoral areas in the region.
The Ghana News Agency (GNA) witnessed the mounting of a platform at the Nyarigabisi electoral area last Friday where three candidates Mrs. Beatrice Akana, a Health Worker, Mr. Joseph Adayae, and Mr. Richard Asaliya were contesting.
Before the presentations, Ms. Felicia Musah, Bolgatanga Municipal Deputy Director of EC, cautioned the electorates to ask the candidates questions devoid of attacks.
Mrs Akana the only woman candidate, asked the electorates to vote for her to the assembly to provide potable water, one of the basic needs of humanity to the area.
She explained that schoolchildren had to commute long distances in search of water and therefore attend school late, affecting their academic performance.
Mrs. Akana said although she was not an assemblywoman, she assisted the community to build a clinic in the area with the assistance of the Catholic Relief Services.
She said she engaged some NGOs to support many needy but brilliants students in the area to enter Senior Secondary Schools.
Mrs. Akana told the electorates that “With all these efforts put in place towards enhancing development of the area, I can perform much better when given the nod” and appealed to the electorates to give her their mandate.
Mr. Joseph Adayae called on the electorates to vote for him, saying that when given the nod he would make the assembly and other NGOs to assist complete the electrification project in the area.
This, he noted, would enable schools in the area to benefit from the President’s Special Initiative on Distance Learning Programme. Mr Adayae said the electricity would also enable women engaged in basket weaving work during the night.
He pledged to liaise with the Ghana Education Service (GES) to post more teachers and teaching materials to the area to enhance teaching and learning.
Mr. Richard Asliya, assured the electorates that he would negotiate with the assembly and the GES to construct more schools to the complement existing ones and provision of potable water.
