Cape Coast undertakes five-hour clean-up exercise

Cape Coast, July 3, GNA – The Central Regional Minister, Nana Ato Arthur together with the Omanhene of the Oguaa Traditional Area, Osabarimba Kwesi Atta II and other top officials including the Regional Police Commander, Mrs Rose Atinga Bio, on Saturday, led the people of Cape Coast and its surrounding communities to undertake a five-hour massive clean-up exercise.

The exercise, which was organized by the Cape Coast Municipal Assembly (CCMA), has been instituted on monthly basis, as part of measures to rid the municipality of filth to befit its status as the “hub” of tourism in the country.

Gutters were cleaned, weeds cleared, the streets and lawns neatly swept and public latrines, culverts and waste dumping sites fumigated, leaving the municipality clean afterwards.

After the exercise, Nana Arthur expressed his satisfaction about the turn-up and said the municipality was becoming cleaner and cleaner and urged the people of Cape Coast to take the exercise serious and also endeavour to keep their environment clean at all times. He appealed to the people to ensure that they did not litter around and avoid dumping refuse at unauthorized places.

Few residents, especially around the Kotokuraba area that, the GNA interviewed said the exercise was very laudable and added that the offensive stench that engulfed the area before the exercise had reduced considerably.
