Women?s alarmed at rampant female murders

 Accra (Greater Accra), 24th July 99 ?

The National Council on Women and Development (NCWD) on Friday expressed concern on the spate of killings of women in Accra and the undignified manner their pictures are shown in the media.

A statement signed on behalf of women by Mrs Molly Anim-Addo, Chairperson of NCWD, expressed concern that no one has been apprehended yet and that the killings still continue.

It stressed that it is a universal truth that all human beings are endowed with inalienable rights and dignity, even in death.

“The picture of a dead woman in the media shown almost naked in a very bad position denied her that right and dignity.”

It said a simple cover over her body before taking the picture would have been enough to preserve her dignity before allowing it to be brought to the public.

It appealed to the IGP, law enforcement agencies and the media to refrain from displaying pictures of dead people in an undignified and ghoulish manner.

The statement urged the police to intensify its search for those involved in these heinous crimes.
