Two in custody for allegedly beating 10-year-old boy to death

Ho, June 2, GNA – Michael Kwame Kuma, 20, unemployed and Kafui Adae, 21, a student were on Wednesday remanded in prison custody by a Ho Circuit Court for allegedly beating a 10-year old boy to death. Their plea was not taken and they will be brought to court again on June 13.

Prosecuting, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Kwame Osei told the court, presided over by Nana Agyeman Badu, that on April 3, this year, the deceased Edmund Dzidefo Kwaku Komla, a class four pupil at Sokode-Etoe, near Ho, went to the school compound during the holidays with a friend to play. He said while playing, the accused, who were in one of the classrooms, questioned the boys about their presence on the compound. ASP Osei said without any response from the boys, the two allegedly started beating them, until they (accused) “were tired”. The court heard that as if not satisfied with the maltreatment they meted out to the boys, the accused further gave canes to the boys to whip each other in turns. ASP Osei said three days after the incident, the deceased complained of ill health with a swollen face and was sent to the hospital where he was treated and discharged. A week later, the deceased’s condition worsened and was sent back to the hospital by an uncle who narrated the ordeal of the boy to the doctor in charge and was advised to report the case to the Police. However, the boy died three days after being admitted at the hospital.
