Armed NDC supporters busted in Yendi

Security Forces at the Yendi joint military ?police checkpoint have arrested two individuals believed to be closely associated with the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) with deadly arms.

Police sources confirmed to the Heritage newspaper on Sunday that Messers Alhassan Abdullah and Muhammed Lamadini were busted on Thursday April 20, 2006 with guns by the Northern region security agencies.

Alhassan Abdullah was caught by the security officers with a locally made pistol while his colleague, Muhammed Lamadini was arrested with a revolver, a type restricted to military personnel only.

The two suspected NDC supporters were charged and subsequently remanded in police custody to reappear on Monday.

Security was tight in Yendi over the weekend in readiness for the restoration of a regent for Dagbon some few days after the burial of the Ya Na, the slain overlord of Dagbon.

Trouble makers were warned by the security agencies to stay away following intelligence information that some people have planned to disrupt the ceremony and create chaos.

Attempts to contact the Northern regional police commander were unsuccessful as he was locked up in security meetings on Sunday evening.
