Koforidua, April 05, GNA – Mr Kwodwo Filson of Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) has said that despite the fact that district assemblies have the legal authority to enter into business partnership to exploit the resources at their disposal, most had not applied the law and are always crying for investments.
He explained that by law, the assemblies could enter into joint partnership with individuals and companies to invest in their districts and create employment for their people.
Mr Filson was speaking at a one-day regional investment promotion seminar at Koforidua on Wednesday.
Representatives of District Assemblies in the Region, Heads of Department, representatives of management of utility services in the region and regional chairpersons of trade and industrial association in the region attended the meeting.
He said the GIPC is the governmental institution that by law had the mandate to promote investment in the country. Mr Filson said the activities of GIPC for some time now had been screwed towards promotion of foreign investment in the country hence the decision to co-operate with Regional Co-ordinating Council (RCC) to promote local investment in the country.
He said the centre had identified some weakness in the investment law of the country hence it had been organizing meetings with organized groups to seek their opinion on the amendment of the law and advised investors to study the law and offer suggestions for its amendment. Mr Filson said the GIPC was also focusing on a Legislative Instrument to help promote investment at the three northern regions of the country.
