Namong Secondary/Technical School PTA renovates hostel

Namong, (Ash), April 1, GNA – The Parents-Teachers-Association (PTA) of the Namong Secondary/Technical School in the Offinso District of Ashanti, has spent 106 million cedis to renovate the school’s hostel and improved other facilities. Mr Richmund Owusu Mensah, Vice Chairman of the PTA, who stated this, said the money was from the 126 million cedis the association collected as dues last year.

He was speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) after a PTA meeting at Namong, near Offinso on Tuesday. Mr Owusu-Mensah said in spite of this achievement, some parents still owed more than 40 million cedis arrears in dues and therefore called on the defaulting parents to settle their arrears promptly. He said the school needed a lot of infrastructure and other facilities to enhance teaching and learning and advised the parents to contribute to assist the school financially and materially. Mr Joseph Amponsah-Dwumfour, the Headmaster said the school has registered 418 final year students, made up of 283 boys and 135 girls for the novelty West African Senior School Examinations (WASSE). Out of the school’s population of 1,380 students, he said only 137 boys and 211 girls were offered boarding facilities due to inadequate facilities.

The situation, Mr Amponsah-Dwumfuor said, called for urgent measures to provide more dormitories for the many students, who travel long distances to school.

He, therefore, called on the administrator of the GETfund, the District Assembly and NGOs to complement the efforts of the PTA in the provision of infrastructure and other facilities in the school. In-spite of the numerous problems and challenges confronting the school, Mr Amponsah-Dwumfuor said the school has consistently maintained its excellent academic performance and hoped to improve upon it this year.
