Amsterdam Southeast Council Donates To Sunyani municipal Hospital

Sunyani, March 10, GNA – The Amsterdam Southeast Council in the Netherlands, in collaboration with the Amsterdam Branch of the Brong-Ahafo Youth Association (BAYA) has donated 2.5 billion cedis worth of assorted medical, surgical and office equipment to the Sunyani Municipal Hospital.

The donation is in fulfillment of a pledge made by the Mayor of the Council, Ms Elvira Sweet during her visit to the region two years ago. Ms Sweet said the donation was to reciprocate the warm reception accorded her during her visit to the region.

She said the Sunyani Municipal Assembly and the Amsterdam Council were to enter into a sister city relations to their mutual benefit. Mr Francis Manu-Gyan, the local representative of BAYA (Amsterdam) commended the efforts of the two organizations in boosting healthcare delivery in the municipal area.

He expressed gratitude to natives in the Diaspora, who were working on the development agenda of the region as worthy ambassadors. Mr Manu-Gyan appealed to authorities in the municipality to waive taxes on such donor items to encourage other philanthropists to donate to needy institutions and communities.

Mr Kwame Twumasi Awuah, Chief Executive of the Sunyani Municpal Hospital who received the donation expressed appreciation for the gesture and said it was timely to ease the pressure on the hospital.
