Journalists advised to cross check facts with Police

Kumasi, Dec. 21, GNA – The Ashanti Regional Public Affairs office of the Ghana Police Service has asked reporters wishing to cross check on stories to first contact the District Police Officer concerned for him to call the Public Affairs Office for clearance before release.

A release from the Public Affairs Department of the Ashanti Regional Police Administration signed by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Jordan Quaye, said the new measure was not intended to stifle journalists of information but was designed to guarantee the free flow of accurate information from the Police Command to the public through the media.

It also asked journalists who need or have information to offer the police to call the Public Affairs officials on telephone numbers 0244628450 and 0244409371.

“Those with vital information on criminals and their support services are equally advised to call at the Public Affairs Office or phone number 05127615 for discussions on the issue”.

The release assured the general public of absolute fairness and guaranteed protection of their confidence and public image should they call to discuss classified and personal matters.
