Accra, Dec. 9, GNA – The Ghana Institute of Languages is in serious financial crises and would need the support of the Government and Ghana Education Trust Fund to enable it to meet its expansion needs, Mr Christopher Ankosaala, Acting Director of the Institute, said on Friday in Accra.
He said currently the institute only relied on school fees and government subvention, which was inadequate to meet these needs mentioning specific projects areas like the Accra campus building of the Institute located in the University of Ghana campus adjacent the Book Trust.
Mr Ankosaala, who was speaking at the fourth matriculation of 1,071 students of the Institute, also called on other donor organisations and benevolent institutions to assist the Institute to achieve its goals and also refurbish its language laboratory.
He said currently the school of translator was affiliated to the University of Ghana and was running B.A programmes in translation. He said at the Institute’s programmes were at the beginners, intermediate and proficiency levels to meet the language and career needs of the students adding that it was the about the best decentralised tertiary institution in Ghana with campuses in Accra, Kumasi and Tamale.
