An investigation will soon begin to establish how the MP for Nkoranza North, Eric Amoateng and his accomplice managed to transport narcotic drugs through Ghana?s port to the United States.
Chairman of the Narcotics Control Board, Captain Nkrabeah Effah Dartey says adequate measures have been put in place in the past six months to check drug trafficking in the country.
The heroine seized by US customs officials in New York is believed to have come from the United Arab Emirates through Accra and London and into the United States.
Captain Effah-Dartey told Joy FM?s Super Morning Show host Komla Dumor that security gadgets have been fixed at the airport to check drug peddling.
?For the past six months that I have been chairman, the control board has been doing all that it can to check the trafficking of drugs through the airport. In fact we have a lot of informants and a lot of men on the beat at the airport and at various points of entry at the airport. But you know sometimes no matter how you tightened it, it some slip through,? he said.
Mr Effah Dartey who is also MP for Berekum said it was not fair to criticize and describe Ghana as a major international drug transit point.
? We have put a lot of men on the ground with 24 hour constant checks to make sure that nobody passes through the net,? he said.
The MP for Nkoranza North, Eric Amoateng and his accomplice, Nii Okai Adjei are in custody awaiting trial for trafficking 136 pounds of heroin with a street value of 6 million dollars to the United States.
