Achiase (Ash), Oct.14, GNA – Mr Thomas Ofori-Donkor, Atwima Nwabiagya District Chief Executive on Wednesday cut the sod for work to commence on a 600 million cedis six classroom block for the Achiase Methodist Primary school in the district. The project, which consists of a library, a staff common room, two stores and an office is being financed by the Ministry of Education and Sports.
Mr Ofori-Donkor said the Government would continue to co-operate and collaborate effectively with the churches to provide quality education, health and other social amenities to improve the living standards of the people.
He said the Government’s fee free education programme for basic school pupils would drastically help to reduce school drop-out rate as well as minimize social vices among the youth. “Armed robbery, drug addiction and other vices among the youth can only be effectively eliminated if children are given adequate quality education,” He added.
Mr Ofori-Donkor advised communities within the district to plan and draw their own priority development programmes for support from the assembly.
The Right Reverend Nuh Ben Abubekr, Kumasi Diocesan Bishop of the Methodist Church observed that the best legacy parents could bequeath to their children was education and advised them to send their children to school.
He said the huge investments made in the provision of educational infrastructure, would be meaningless if parents refused to send their children to school.
Rt. Rev. Abubekr regretted that in the past mission schools were left out in the distribution of educational infrastructure that did not augur well for efficient education delivery in the country. Mr Baffour Asare-Bediako, an Assistant Director of Education at the Atwima Nwabiagya District Education Directorate said educational infrastructure and other facilities had improved tremendously in the past five years.
He therefore, advised School Management Committees (SMCs) to collaborate effectively with school authorities to improve teaching and learning.
Nana Yaw Sarfoh Kantanka, Ankobeahene of Achiase appealed to the Government to speed-up the re-construction of the Abrepo- Junction-Barekese road through Achiase. He said most drivers plying the road had withdrawn their vehicles due to its deplorable condition that was affecting movement by the people.
