MD ordered to refund 20.8 million-cedi SSNIT contributions

Tema, Aug. 19, GNA – The Tema circuit court ‘A’ on Thursday ordered the Managing Director of Kolan Safety and Cleaning Services in Tema to refund 20.8 million cedis, being his company workers’ contributions to the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT).

The court presided over by Mr Charles Asiedu, also imposed a fine of 10 million cedis on Edward Tetteh, the Managing Director. Tetteh, who faced two counts of failing to pay social security contributions, would serve a one-year prison term if he defaulted. The court at its sitting on July 4, last year, convicted Tetteh on his own plea, but deferred sentence until August 31 the same year to enable him to make good his company’s arrears to the Trust. When the matter came up for hearing on Thursday the prosecution informed the court that Tetteh had not made any payments since sentence was deferred last year.

Accordingly, the court fined Tetteh and also ordered him to refund social security contributions amounting to 20,862,997,78 cedis to the SSNIT. 19 Aug. 05
