Govt secures 12 million dollars for housing – MP

Gomoa Tarkwa (C/R), Aug 14, GNA – The Government has sourced over 12 million dollars loan from the Japanese Government for the construction of estate houses to address the housing shortfall in the country.

Mr Joe Hackman, MP for Gomoa West announced this to climax the Annual Akwambo Festival of the Chiefs and the people of Gomoa Tarkwa at the weekend.

He said the Government had the intention to assist people especially workers leaving near the nation’s capital to stay in their home towns to attend work in Accra to offer them relief and to avoid the huge rent advances they paid to landlords.

He stated that more than 100,000 estate houses would be constructed early next year.

Mr Hackman said that the government had put in place measures to offer financial assistance to hairdressers, dressmakers and others artisans to improve their small and medium scale businesses. He assured the people that government was committed to pursue good policies and programmes that would promote the peoples’ standard of living.

Mr Isaac Arhin, Chairman of the Accra branch of Gomoa Tarkwa Development Association, stated that government was ready to assist people who have helped themselves and urged the people to contribute their quota towards the development of the town .

He called on the members of the association in Accra, Tema, Kumasi, Kasoa and Takoradi to help complete the Vocational Training Institute initiated by the Methodist Church Ghana and appealed to the District Assembly to help construct new classroom blocks for the Roman Catholic Primary and Junior Secondary School in the town.
