Asuogyaman Assembly confirms DCE

Senkyi E/R), July 31, GNA- The Asuogyaman District Assembly on Saturday, confirmed the President’s nominee, Mr. Emmanuel Wellington Ntow Bediako, 66, as the District Chief Executive (DCE). Mr Bediako, an educationist, polled 33 votes which forms 84.6 per cent of the votes cast with six against.

Ten days ago, Mr Bediako failed to secure the two thirds majority required to be confirmed hence the second ballot. Speaking at the function, the Minister of Local Government, Mr. Charles Bintim called on Members of District Assemblies to hold their District Chief Executives (DCE) accountable for all resources that come to the assemblies.

He said the situation where the DCE and the District Co-ordinating Director alone sit in their offices and planned and implement projects only to come and inform the members of the assembly later were past. Mr Bintim called on members of the District Assemblies to sit up and approve all expenditures before there were spent by the DCE. He advised the newly elected DCE to run an open administration and to desist from going to search for the people who voted against him. The Eastern Regional Minister, Mr Yaw Barimah observed that the members of the Asuogyaman District Assembly had proved that despite their differences, they could come together for the good of society and the country.

He said along the way, there were difficulties but explained that if there had been sufficient consultations, the initial difficulties could have been avoided.

In his acceptance speech, Mr Bediako promised to run an open administration and treat everybody equally. He promised to work in close co-operation with the Member of Parliament for the area to ensure the development of the district.
