NGO donates computers to schools

Tamale, June 23, GNA- Voluntary Child Aid (VCA), a non-governmental organisation (NGO), has donated five computers and 100 diskettes valued at about 20 million cedis to schools under the Methodist Education Unit in Tamale.

Mr Frederick Addai, Country Director of the NGO, who presented the computers on Thursday, said the gesture was aimed at promoting teaching and learning at the Methodist schools.

Mr Bram Aarts a member of the NGO, who accompanied the Country Director said information technology plays an integral part in development and urged school children to take computer studies seriously. Mr Jones Sackey, the Northern Regional Manager of the Methodist Education Unit, commended the NGO for its assistance and promised to use the computers for the benefit of the pupils. He expressed regret that some teachers refused to accept postings to the rural areas but foreign volunteers accepted to live in the rural area and teach.

He appealed to parents to take good care of their children and to provide them with their basic needs to motivate them to attend school regularly. 23 June 05
