Students in Cape Coast appeals to NAGRAT

Cape Coast May 24, GNA- Senior Secondary School (SSS) students in Cape Coast, on Tuesday appealed to the striking members of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) to reconsider their decision and call off their industrial action, “for the sake of final year students”.

Master Francis Kobina Baidoo, School Prefect of St Augustine’s College, made the appeal on behalf of his colleagues through the Ghana News Agency.

He said the strike action was having adverse effect on the preparation of the final year students for the SSS Certificate Examination.

He said students offering economics and physics had not completed their syllabus.

Master Baidoo appealed to the Government and other stakeholders to resolve the stalemate.

Mr Francis Amissah, Headmaster of the school said the strike had greatly affected academic work, since 62 out the 74 teaching staff were members of NAGRAT.

He said the final year students had less than two weeks to start their examination and appealed to the teachers to consider their decision and return to the classroom. At Mfantsipim Secondary School, Mr Cosby Eshun, Head Master, asked members of NAGRAT to consider the future of the students they are mandated to teach.

Mr Herbert Graham, Headmaster of Adisadel College and Mrs Aba Tachie-Menson, Headmistress of Academy of Christ Secondary School, said the strike action had not seriously affected academic work.
