Biakoye NPP top brass protest

Members of the Biakoye constituency branch of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Volta Region have threatened to withdraw their support for the party?s nominee for the position of District Chief Executive for Jasikan.

Solomon Donkor is said to have gone through interviewing for the position but party officials say he ceased to be a member of the party following his dismissal after the 2004 general elections.

At a news conference in Accra on Tuesday, the constituency chairman Festus Abotsina said the party?s preferred nominees have been sidelined.

Mr. Abotsina later told JOY News the party executives and members will denounce their membership if Mr. Donkor is made chief executive of the district.

?He has betrayed our course as constituency executives, we shall not give him our support in that position and we will continue to fight for our rights. So long as he remains here the party will lose its support in the constituency. Our party supporters have made it clear to me that, should he be re-nominated, they will leave the party,? he says.

Mr. Abotsina says Mr. Donkor had shown gross disrespect for party members often priding himself on having godfathers who would do everything to maintain him in the Party.
