39 best teachers in Fanteakwa denied awards for three years

Begoro(E/R), May 5, GNA- Due to lack of funds, 39 award winners of the annual Best Teacher Award Scheme, in the Fanteakwa District of the Eastern Region, have been denied their prizes for the past three years. The District Director of Education, Mr Stephen Peter-Andoh, who made this know at a meeting with Headteachers at Begoro on Wednesday said the figure includes 36 teachers and three non-teaching staff. The meeting took stock of the performance of the school heads and adopted new strategies to improve on their output.

Mr Peter-Andoh said the District Assembly, which was the main sponsor of the programme could not release funds during the period due to financial constraints.

He said efforts were being made to rectify the situation. The Headteachers noted that the elimination of Head teachers from the scheme, since its inception in 1995 had demoralized most of them and was contributing to low supervision in schools. They therefore called on the government to introduce a scheme for hardworking school heads.
