Court fines auto-mechanic for carting illegal timber

Kumasi, April 5, GNA-A Kumasi circuit court has sentenced a 42-year-old auto-mechanic, Alhaji Ibrahim Mohammed, to a fine of two million cedis for using his vehicle to illegal cart illegal sawn timber.

Mohammed who pleaded guilty would be gaoled for two years in default.

Police Chief Inspector Regina Kesewah, told the court presided over by Mr Ernest Yao Obimpeh that on March 27, this year, a police patrol team intercepted a cargo truck belonging to the accused on the Kumasi-Offinso highway loaded with 200 pieces of illegally ‘wawa’ boards.

She said Mohammed deserted the truck when he spotted the police. Chief Inspector Kesewah said the Forestry task force was consequently informed and the boards were confiscated.
