Man in possession weapon remanded

Sunyani, March 18, GNA – A Sunyani circuit court on Friday remanded Hakim Abdulai, a 35-year old driver at Wenchi, for possessing a firearm and ammunition.

Abdulai’s plea was not taken and was ordered to reappear on March 22.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Alex Yartey Tawiah told the court that on March 3 last year police at Wenchi received information that the accused had a weapon and some ammunition in his house.

He said a police team was dispatched to his house but could not trace the weapon and the ammunition after a search. Upon interrogation the accused admitted that he had a weapon but it belonged to his late brother Baba Abdulai.

The accused however said thieves stole the weapon about three weeks earlier and left the ammunition.

Police inspected the room but did not find any clue to the break-in neither did the accused report the alleged theft to the police. The prosecutor said investigations are going on.
