Govt Has No Hand In Rawlings Snub – Botwe

The Information Minister, Mr. Dan Botwe has denied government’s involvement in moves by the chairman of the University for Development Studies to put on hold the intended ceremony to award certain personalities with Honorary Degrees.

According to Mr. Botwe, no government official has come out to make a statement against the ceremony to award the ex-president, which is scheduled to come off this Saturday.

He said on PeaceFM today that government cannot under any circumstance, stop the action from taking place, as is being reported in the media.

It has been reported by the media that the Chairman of the University Council, Mr. Charles Gyima acting on orders from above, has written to the vice-chancellor, Prof. B.K. Kabruise to put the ceremony on hold for security reasons. Mr. Dan Botwe however denied any knowledge of this.

Meanwhile, special assistant to the ex-president, Mr. Victor Smith says no formal letter has been received from the University council to inform the ex-president of attempts to post-pone the ceremony. According to him, the only source of information available to him on the event is hearsay.
