Council of state members elected for regions

Regional representatives to Ghana?s Council of State were yesterday elected. The 25-member Council of State serves as an advisory body to the President of Ghana and his Cabinet. Ten of the members are elected at the beginning of the term of the Government while the President appoints the remaining fifteen.

A list of the elected regional representatives is as follows:- Mr Ato Essuman, Central; Mr John Sakah Addo, Greater Accra; Togbe Kpangbatriku III, a traditional ruler from Dodome-Aveha, Volta; Kurore Kuri-Buktie IV, paramount chief of the Gwollu traditional area, Upper West; Mr Francis Asiana Afoko, Upper East; Mr Michael Kojo Adusah, Brong Ahafo; Mr Paul Kwabena Damoah, Western; Mr Frederik Guggisburg Ofori-Atta Asante, Eastern; Mr Benjamin Asonaba Dapaah, Ashanti and Professor Sabiyan Sulemana, Northern.

With the election of the regional representatives, the President is expected to nominate the rest of the members of the Council.

The constitution enjoins the President to include in his appointment, a former Chief Justice, a former Chief of Defence Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces and a former Inspector-General of Police
