20 AKTH Staff test negative for Lassa fever

Over twenty health workers at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH), who had direct contact with a confirmed Lassa fever patient, have all tested negative for the disease.

This was confirmed by the Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee of the hospital, Professor Muhammad Abba Suwaid, who disclosed that the affected staff were temporarily isolated and their blood samples taken for testing. All results came back negative.

Professor Suwaid credited the development to the professionalism and diligence displayed by AKTH staff in handling patients, adding that their adherence to standard protocols prevented further spread of the virus within the hospital.
