Porter jailed for assaulting cells mate

Techiman (B/A), Jan.6 -GNA- The Techiman Circuit Court, has sentenced a 25-year-old Porter at Techiman lorry , Yakubu Alhassan, to 36 months imprisonment in hard labour, for beating up a cell inmate at the Techiman Central Police Station.

Alhassan, pleaded guilty to a charge of assaulting one Eric Appiahene.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Sampson Jebuni told the Court presided over by Mr Justice Erasmus Gyinae, that on Wednesday, January 5, this year, the complainant, Appiahene was arrested on a bench warrant for stealing and placed in the same cell with Alhassan.

He said Alhassan demanded a new entrant fee of 20,000 from the complainant and when he could not afford to pay, Alhassan assaulted him, leading to a deep cut on his upper lip.

Chief Inspector Jebuni said the accused also forced Appiahene to lie by a pan latrine.
