Jasikan District Assembly re-electes Presiding Member

Jasikan, Oct. 16, GNA – The Jasikan District Assembly on Friday re-elected Mr Ignatius K. Mintah, as Presiding Member to steer the affairs of the Assembly for another two-year term.

Mr Mintah, who was the sole candidate, polled all 58 votes of the Assembly-members present, out of the 70-member House, to attain the two-thirds majority requirement. The District Director of the Electoral Commission (EC), Mr Bismark Nteh, supervised the voting.

Mr J. K. Senu, a Judge of the Jasikan Magistrate Court, who swore-in Mr Mintah, exhorted him to continue to live above reproach and partisanship, which encouraged members to overwhelmingly re-elect him. He urged the PM to discharge his duties diligently and without fear or favour until their corporate ambitions were met. In his acceptance speech, Mr Mintah appealed to Assembly-members to eschew apathy, petty corruption and show self-less devotion to duty, to enable them collectively, deepen democratic values and good governance through healthy interactions.

He urged them to translate the prevailing unity in the House to the development of the District and thanked them for their trust. Mr Solomon Donkor, Jasikan District Chief Executive urged the Assembly-members to sensitise their electorates and constituents on the need for tolerance and peace in the December elections.

He called on political parties and their supporters to refrain from de-facing party paraphernalia of opposing parties, as “these may be recipes for conflicts and disputes”.

In a related development, Mr Albert K. Agra, was re-elected unopposed as the Presiding Member of the Hohoe District Assembly.
