Kumasi, Oct. 7, GNA – International Youth Welfare Foundation (IYWF), a Kumasi-based nongovernmental organisation (NGO) has added its voice to the call on politicians to be mindful of their pronouncements when they mounted political platforms to campaign for Election 2004. The organisation pointed out that words were very potent and powerful, and could make or destroy the peace to destabilise the country.
A statement issued in Kumasi on Wednesday and signed by the Reverend Duah-Darkwa Hayford, Executive Director of IYWF, reminded politicians that in the quest for political power and mandate to rule the country, they should not lose sight of the fact that it was the citizens who constituted a country.
The statement reminded politicians to realise that Ghanaians were peaceful people, who preferred to live in peace and would not allow themselves to be used by selfish politicians to stir violence and destabilise the country.
“This is our motherland, we have nowhere to go, and we will not allow ourselves to be exploited.”
It cautioned citizens seeking political mandate to understand that Ghanaians were wise enough not to be deceived on party, religious, tribal or ethnic lines, adding that it was a thing of the past and asked Ghanaians to protect the peace, which they had enjoyed over the years.
