Gomoa Odina (Central Region), 13 Jan. ’99 – The chiefs and people of Gomoa Odina in the Central region at the weekend installed a 37-year-old teacher as Obaatan under the stool name Nana Quansah Yedu the fourth. Speaking after he had sworn an oath of allegiance to the Odikro of the town Nana Yedu said his aim is to promote peace and unity at Gomoa Odina. He said he and his elders will not tolerate any acts which would jeopardise the socio-economic advancement of the people. Nana Yedu cautioned the youth against dodging communal labour activities and flouting bye-laws instituted by their district assembly. He expressed concern about falling standards in education in the area and urged stakeholders to do everything possible to reverse the trend. The Obaatan advised parents to give priority to their children’s education instead of spending their money on litigations and funerals. He expressed concern about the spate of teenage pregnancy in the town and urged parents to provide the basic needs to their daughters. Nana Aboa Debi, Odikro of Gomoa Osamkrom who was the guest of honour urged the people to eschew litigations and disputes which retard development. He urged the newly installed chief to co-operate with his elders in order to promote peace and stability in the area.
