Ejisu (Ash), Sept 16, GNA – The Magistrate Court at Ejisu on Tuesday remanded Kwame Amoako, who was in a gang of armed robbers who allegedly inflicted cutlass wounds on a taxi driver and took away the taxi he was driving.
The suspect, whose plea was not taken, will re-appear on September 20, while two accomplices, on the run were being sought by the police. Chief Inspector A.K. Danquah told the court presided over by Mr Noble Nkrumah that on July 24 at about 2145 hours, Amoako and his two accomplices hired the complainant’s taxi from Kumasi to Ejisu. He said when they reached Krapa, one of the robbers ordered the driver to surrender all the money he had made for the day, while his two colleagues gripped him, inflicted cutlass wounds on him, threw him out of the taxi and bolted with it.
Chief Insp Danquah said the Ejisu police on August 20, had information that a taxi with no registration number had been intercepted by the police in Kumasi. The prosecutor said the accused who was driving the vehicle was handed over to the Ejisu police. Amoako admitted during interrogation of being one of the gang who stole the taxi.
