Court remands four armed robbers

Kumasi, Sept 9, GNA- A Kumasi circuit court on Wednesday remanded four persons who allegedly robbed a taxi driver and shot at him. The pleas of Benjamin Twumasi alias Mugabe, 19, Robert Ahmed, 20, Mohammed Akurugu alias Frafra, 20, and Kofi Emmanuel, 21, were not taken. They would re-appear on September 24.

Police Chief Inspector Agnes Dinkyini told the court that on September 5, this year, the accused persons planned to rob Twumasi’s uncle who lived abroad of his personal belongings at his residence near the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). She said the accused persons met at a place about 2100 hours to discuss the execution of their plan.

Chief Inspector Dinkyini said, Twumasi, who was said to be the leader of the group, suggested that they should first rob somebody of his vehicle, which would be used to carry his uncle’s belongings. She said Twumasi then gave two locally manufactured guns and a knife to the other members for the operation and immediately they finished with the operation, the victim appeared on the scene and the accused persons were arrested.
