Dormaa Central MP condemns teacher-student relationship, calls for stricter punishment for involved teachers

The Honorable John Kwame Adu Jack, Member of Parliament for the Dormaa Central constituency, has addressed the recent viral video depicting inappropriate conduct involving the Assistant Headmaster for Academics at KNUST Senior High School, a teacher from Okadjakrom Senior High Technical School, and their students.

In an exclusive interview with Kwaku Mensah Abrampa, Hon. John Kwame Adu Jack unequivocally condemned the behavior, emphasizing his position as a lecturer and stating that inappropriate actions are unacceptable regardless of who is responsible. He characterized the fondling of a KNUST SHS student’s breast by the Assistant Headmaster as harassment, highlighting the potential influence the headmaster might exert over the students. He stressed that such actions could erode the trust parents and guardians have in teachers regarding the safety of their wards, underscoring the necessity of unequivocal condemnation regardless of the circumstances preceding the video’s release.

He urged the Ghana Education Service not to temper justice with mercy, but to ensure that the teachers involved in the recent teacher-student relationship incidents, which have been publicly exposed online, are appropriately sanctioned to serve as a deterrent to others.

Honorable John Kwame Adu Jack again urged the Ghana Education Service (GES) to monitor the relationship and activities occurring within our educational framework between teachers and students. He emphasized the importance of Circuit Supervisors (CISOs) in intensifying the monitoring of both learners and educators’ behavior at the basic level to enhance discipline and minimize undesirable and bad conduct among some teachers in our school.
