Residents of Tema and several parts of Accra are facing a temporary disruption in water supply following emergency repair works at the Kpong Water Treatment Plant.
According to Ghana Water Limited (GWL), damage to the raw water transmission pipeline on Thursday, August 28, 2025, forced management to shut down the facility to allow repair works to begin. The process is expected to take three days.
The affected areas include the entire Tema Metropolis and large sections of Accra such as Ashaiman, Gbetsele, Akatamanso, Klagon, Lashibi, Baatsonaa, Spintex, parts of East Legon, and surrounding communities.
Management has urged customers to store enough water while supply is still available. In addition, essential service providers, particularly schools and hospitals, have been encouraged to contact GWL for assistance. Dedicated phone lines, WhatsApp numbers, and social media platforms have been made available for support.
GWL assured the public that water supply would be restored immediately after the works are completed, expressing regret for the inconvenience caused.
