Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola has heaped praise on Ghanaian forward Antoine Semenyo, describing him as a crucial figure in the club’s push for success in the upcoming Premier League season.
Semenyo, 24, recently committed his long-term future to the Cherries by signing a contract extension that keeps him at the Vitality Stadium until June 2030. The decision ends mounting speculation about a possible move, with several top-flight clubs reportedly circling for his signature.
The Black Stars striker was one of Bournemouth’s standout performers last season, scoring 13 goals and providing five assists in 42 appearances across all competitions.
Speaking ahead of the new campaign, Iraola said he is relying on Semenyo’s growing influence and experience to push the team further up the table.
“Antoine is someone that has been, not just last year, but over the last two years with us, progressing a lot,” the Spanish manager told reporters.
“He started in the lower divisions, got to the Premier League, and has been improving every season, playing more, having better stats, being more important for the team. I hope he can continue this progression.”
Iraola also believes Semenyo is now ready to take on a leadership role in the dressing room.
“He’s acquired some experience now, and I hope he can give us leadership. Last season, he was very important for us not just because of the goals, but the work he does for the team.”
Semenyo has already featured in Bournemouth’s pre-season matches, and fans will be hoping he hits the ground running when the new Premier League season kicks off.
With his pace, power, and eye for goal, Semenyo remains one of Ghana’s brightest stars abroad and now, a cornerstone in Iraola’s Bournemouth blueprint.
