Bring the Cup Home – Betty Krosbi Mensah Rallies Black Queens Ahead of WAFCON Semifinal

As the Black Queens prepare to face host nation Morocco in the semi-final of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) later today, they’ve received a heartfelt message of encouragement from Hon. Betty Krosbi Mensah, Senior Technical Advisor to the Minister for Sports and Recreation.

In a rousing goodwill message, the former Member of Parliament lauded the team’s impressive run and urged them to go all the way.

“Our wonderful team, the Queens of Africa, the Black Queens of Ghana, I want to use this opportunity to congratulate you for qualifying for the Women’s African Cup of Nations,” she said. “Indeed, as a country, we are really proud of you, and we are solidly behind you. Bring the cup home.”

The message comes as national excitement builds ahead of the much-anticipated clash in Rabat. The Queens, who booked their place in the semi-finals with a dramatic 4-2 penalty shootout victory over Algeria, are now just one win away from reaching their first WAFCON final since 2006.

Morocco, runners-up in the last edition and powered by home support, are expected to pose a formidable challenge. But support from across Ghana, from political figures to football icons like Jordan Ayew, has only strengthened the Queens’ resolve.

With the game set to kick off later this evening, Hon. Mensah’s words echo the hopes of millions: a united nation standing behind its daughters, dreaming of WAFCON glory.
