ISD embarks on HIV/AIDS campaign

Tarkwa (W/R), Aug. 23, GNA – The Information Service Department (ISD) has embarked on HIV/AIDS education campaign on the availability of Antiretroviral Drugs (ARD) in the country.

With the introduction of ARD people living with HIV can manage their conditions in order to prolong their lifespan.

Therefore, the campaign message: “HIV/AIDS Can Be Treated, Get Tested Early For Treatment” calls on all to go for voluntary test, Mrs. Josephine Robertson Carboo, a Deputy Director of ISD and a member of HIV/AIDS Taskforce, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Tarkwa at the weekend.

Launched in Aflao in July, this year, she said the Second Phase of HIV/AIDS Education Campaign is targeted at some border, mining and big marketing towns where there was influx of people involved in marketing and cross-border activities.

The First Phase was on HIV/AIDS awareness, which involved abstinence, use of condom and being faithful to ones partner. Mrs. Carboo said Nzema East, Jomoro and Wassa West Districts and Shama Ahanta East Metropolitan Area were covered adding that Northern, Upper East and Upper West as well as Brong Ahafo Regions would be covered.

She said film shows on HIV/AIDS and street talks were employed to carry the message across to the people.

Mrs. Carboo said public reaction indicated the effectiveness of the methods.
