Asante Kotoko etched their name in history once again, securing their 10th MTN FA Cup title with a thrilling 2-1 win over Golden Kick FC at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.
The Porcupine Warriors struck first in the 16th minute, capitalizing on defensive miscommunication as Opoku pounced to give Kotoko an early lead. Despite the setback, Golden Kick displayed resilience, dominating possession and creating chances in the final third. Their efforts paid off in the 31st minute when Bless Ege unleashed a stunning free-kick to bring the game level.
Both sides battled fiercely after the halftime break, with opportunities coming and going for either team. It seemed the match was destined for extra time until a moment of controversy in the dying minutes. Kotoko were awarded a penalty after the referee ruled that Golden Kick’s goalkeeper fouled Opoku in the box, a decision that sparked animated protests but ultimately stood after consultation.
Opoku, the hero of the day, calmly slotted the spot-kick into the net, sealing a hard-fought victory for Asante Kotoko.
The triumph marks another chapter in Kotoko’s storied legacy, adding to their dominance in Ghanaian football.
