One billion-cedi school project for six communities

Obuasi, July 19, GNA – The Adansi West District Assembly is committing over one billion cedis accrued from its mineral royalties to construct three-unit classroom blocks with office, store and four-seat KVIPs in six communities in the district.

The communities are Adomanu, Adamso, Sansu, Annorkrom, Mensonso and Mpirekyire.

Mr Joseph Kwadwo Boampong, the District Chief Executive, announced this in a speech read for him at a durbar of parents, teachers and pupils to climax the district’s pre-school week celebration. He said the assembly had already spent huge sums of monies to construct a number of school buildings under the District Assemblies’ Common Fund, the HIPC relief fund and that of the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund).

“As an assembly and government representatives, we have and continue to play our role to ensure that the infrastructure development of our schools are at acceptable standards”, he said.

Mr Boampong spoke about the government’s intention to include pre-school age children in the Free Compulsory Universal Basic Education (FCUBE) programme and said, “this further energises the need for parents to support their children to derive the maximum benefit from the FCUBE”. Miss Ellen Takyi-Mensah, Ashanti Regional Pre-School Education Co-ordinator, urged parents to nurture their young children to enable them to become useful adults in future.
