Railway To Improve Shuttle Service

The Ghana Railway Corporation (GRC) is strengthening its Accra-Tema, Accra-Nsawam and Kumasi-Ejisu shuttle services in response to the government?s efforts to expand the country?s mass transportation network.

Mr J. S. Appiah, the Chairman of the GRC Board of Directors, announced this during a visit to Kumasi in the Ashanti Region. The purpose of the visit was to enable the GRC Board and management to acquaint themselves with the operation of the Kumasi-Ejisu shuttle.

It was also to afford the Board the opportunity to meet with leaders of the workers? union to deliberate on ways of promoting GRC?s progress.

Mr Appiah said that one issue that was high on the agenda of GRC was the maintenance of the entire track, which has been neglected over the years. He indicated that GRC was discussing with its primary customers how they might help in this exercise.

He added that? the bauxite, manganese and other mining companies have been invited to help in the rehabilitation of the tracks.?
