School cries for assistance

Sunyani (B/A), July 17, GNA- Twene Amanfo Secondary/Technical School (TASTECH) in Sunyani has appealed to the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFUND) to provide administration block, hostel facility and teachers’ bungalows for the school.

Mrs. Georgina Boakye, Headmistress, who made the appeal in an interview with Ghana News Agency on Thursday, called on corporate bodies in the Sunyani municipality to assist in the improvement of facilities at the school.

She said since the school was upgraded in 1981 to the senior secondary level, it had contributed immensely in academic, sports and other areas.

However she said the school lacks a hostel, teachers’ accommodation and a school bus and that a bus presented to the school by VALCO in 1987 had broken down due to old age.

Mrs. Boakye explained that the hostel would help in the admission of more students in the municipality and help students of trekking from far to classes.

“Our Vocational Technical Center (VOTEC), which enables students to undertake courses in metal engineering, auto engineering, building construction and electric engineering can also help other schools to undertake practical at the school premises”, she added. The school currently has 1,309 students, comprising 940 boys and 369 girls.
